In short: AI Category Detection reads each post's image and text together and sorts the product into a category automatically, so you can track, report on and act against infringements by product type without sorting anything by hand.
Understanding AI Category Detection
Knowing what is being copied matters as much as knowing that it's being copied. AI Category Detection automatically sorts every post into a product category, so you can see where infringements cluster and focus enforcement on the product lines that matter most.
Out of the box, posts are sorted into hundreds of predefined categories. You can also tailor them to your own catalogue.
1. How it works
Using two signals instead of one means fewer posts end up in the wrong category.
Rather than relying on a single signal, AI Category Detection uses a fusion model that analyses the post's image and text together.
Image: what the product looks like in the photos.
Text: what the title and description say it is.
Weighing both side by side reduces false positives: a post whose title says "bag" but whose photos show a phone case won't be filed under bags.

2. Customising your categories
Make the categories match your product lines and enforcement priorities, not just a generic list.
Rename categories: change the labels to match the language your team already uses.
Split broad groups into subcategories: break a wide category into the product types you actually track.
Predefined category | Custom subcategories (Solène example) |
Handbags | Totes, Crossbody bags, Clutches |
Beauty Products | Fragrance, Lipsticks, Skincare Sets |
Tip: Mirror the categories you already report on internally, so Zeal's figures line up with your own product reporting.

3. Finding posts by category
Want to focus on one product line? Filter your posts by the category AI Category Detection has assigned.
Click All Filters, then search for Product (or scroll to it) and open the Product section.
Open the Product Category dropdown, expand a category to see its subcategories, and tick the ones you want (for example, Bags).
The table then shows only posts in the categories you selected.
